Carol, a young American woman working in Paris, was making plans to marry Howard. She was not in love with him but thought they had the essentials for making a good marriage. During the period of her engagement, she tried to find something romantic about Paris and her love affair. Paris in reality from her point of view, was dreary and unexciting and her experiences had no romance to them at all.
